This guy is a joke of a gm. he couldnt sign k-dice, wont be signing zito, couldnt get a-ram, couldnt get soriani, signed matthews, what a joke of a gm he is. cant believe i will be saying this but the dodger team and organization looks solid now compared to ours.
KingBeauchemin
is it necessary to start a thread about this subject, so what we didnt sign Soriano for 136 mill, or aramis rameriz for 75 mill or Zito for probably 100 mill when we already have 6 good starters. the angels or not the Sox or Yanks we dont just throw money away. he keeps a good team on the field and keeps are farm system deep and rich. if you look at it he is doing exactly what the ducks are doing and it is appearently working there. It is not his fault we lost Colon last year but is his fault for having Saunders there to take his spot. It was not his fault the Angels doulbled the amount of errors from last year but it was his fault that he signed an outfielder who has never had more than 7 errors in a season and has speed. It wasnt his fault Dmac got hurt or Kotchman, but then again it was his fault to have Izturiz and Quinlan there to help fill our holes.

Yep you got it, its is all Stoneman's fault that our team won only 89 games instead the 70 they should have won with the loss of our Cy young winner and our first and third baseman out, while our Defense when from a top 5 defense to a bottom 5 defense. I mean we only had more wins than any team in the NL other then NYM.

How dare Stoneman give us a good team now and in the Future.

Come on everyone say it with me, "Fire Stoneman"
its only like firing Burke. hmm.gif
Still MIGHTY
but look at it this way

what was our biggest problem last year?
Scoring

we didnt have that many injuries to our hitting last year
we signed gary matthews, oh joy

I have no problem with our pitching. we've picked up some solid middle relief players to fix that hole we had in our pitching. our pitching and defense is solid when healthy.

we need hitting. and GM Jr isnt going to get it done.
The offseason is far from over.

the main reason to fire Stoneman is inconsistency and his huge willingness not to make a deal. yes i know we want to keep in in system and farm our talent. and that works. but if that talent has a hole somewhere then we need to fill it with a big trade or free agent signing.
If the Angels don't make the playoffs the next two years. then i'd give Stoneman the boot. as for now, sit it out. Baseball season isn't untill April and Spring Training is in March. Wait at least 2-3-4 months. and even then. wait till about midseason and evaluate then.
Till then
Just sit
Wait
And grumble to yourself, if you have grumblings.
if you have grumblings
watch the Ducks!
Trust me makes you feel a lot better smile.gif

This topic should be merged with the Angels topic that is already going.

I/we have already mentioned on that thread that Stoneman is an idiot.

Last year we needed a POWER HITTER... This year, same story. Gary Matthews Jr. is not the answer.

QUOTE
"Bill Stoneman does not have the stomach to make a major trade"
-Jeff Passan, Yahoo! Sports

Everyone knows that in the quote above, Jeff means Stoneman doesn't have the "balls" to make a big trade. It's embarassing that we are hoarding our minor players when several of them haven't worked out. (McPherson mostly)

WE NEED MANNY RAMIREZ. His attitude sucks but he is good friends with Guerrero and he needs a change of scenery badly.
WISDUCK
If GMs got fired because they didn't sign multi-players for over 50 millions dollars, then every GM would get fired besides the Sox and Yanks.

It's not about signing big contracts with players. It's about finding a hitter that can help get us back to the World Series.

Guerrero, Colon, and a few others are only under contract for a short time longer. We need to get back to the World Series soon because I seriously doubt that these guys will stick around if they can be paid more by the Yankees, Cardinals, or someone else that has a better chance of winning.
LightItUp4126
Boston's not done trading, I'll guarantee you that.

Someone has to be the odd man out, maybe Josh Beckett, and Manny is gonna request at least 4 more trades. I guarantee you, someone out there can fix the hitting problem.

jenkins is a local hero!

Angels and Clippers are both suffering from "Lethargic GM Syndrome", they could take a lesson from the Ducks.

What the Angels needed and what they got are two different things, and as much as I love GA for everything he has done it is about time we got Rivera in full time in left field. We need a dominating 1st OR 3rd baseman.

Aramis Ramirez would have clinched a division title for the Angels. Why he wasn't as looked at as he should have been I do not know.
KingBeauchemin
When has Aramis Ramirez showed he can just win a division, while playing on the Cubs?

I would just like to know how many "Big Bats" we had when we won the World Series? Because im sure it wasnt alot maybe you can refresh my memory.

Glaus<<<<<<Vlad
GA>Juan
Salmon<GA

oh and dont forget the huge bats: Spiezo, Fullmer, AK, Erstad

It was all about Pitching and Defense.
socalcustoms
Well, we just lost Rivera for at least the start of the season.

QUOTE
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Angels outfielder Juan Rivera broke his left leg Friday during a winter league game in Venezuela.

Rivera broke his left tibia in the Oriente Caribbeans' game against the Aragua Tigers in Maracay. The Angels said Rivera's leg has been placed in a cast and he will be flown to Miami, where he will be re-examined by a trauma specialist Saturday.

Last season, the 28-year-old Rivera had career bests in average (.310), runs (65), hits (139), home runs (23) and RBIs (85)
Still MIGHTY
so does anyone now agree we need a bat of rivera's caliber to fill in?
KingBeauchemin
i would first say lets see how long he is out for, because he might not have to be replaced, and why in the world do these players insists on playing in winter leagues.

If you add his bat to the 2006 Angels the Angels would have won the division. Putting him and Vlad in the lineup together would have brutal for opposing teams.

Glaus (A former AL Home Run Leader)hit 30 Homers, GA had 29 while hitting over .300. Kennedy hit for over .300. Eckstein, Spezio, Erstad, Fullmer and Salmon all hit .280 or more. We didn't have the same need for a big bat because we were above average up and down the lineup. I'm not trying to diminish the great pitching and defense, but it was only there because the Angels had the bats when it counted. Or do you forget the banner year of the Rally Monkey when the Angels had to come from behind for a lot of their wins (that takes more hitting than they have now).

Im not saying AR is the fix-everything solution for the Angels but a guy who can tack on a .300 average and nearly 40 home runs would be a great addition.

Speaking of good additions. Shea Hillenbrand might be a good fit, and he did just get signed.
WISDUCK
Aramis Ramirez is overrated. I've watched him over 75 times last season, not impressed. If you want someone from Chicago take Carlos Zambrano next year. There is no way the Cubies can afford him after their shopping spree this year.
Hkyfan565
this should have happened in 03 when stoneman said he didnt want to change a single thing about the world series team. Bill Stoneman has a small market mind, he does not belong at the helm of a 100 million doller team. Thats the short version.

Agreed, but i don't think he's a small market guy. I think he's an idiot.

I want to make this very clear before I write this... I am not a racist.

But...

It seems that all of the caucasian players are being weeded out for young, minority players. That is the way baseball is heading and with a hispanic owner, the Angels are definitely in that zone.

Let's review. Erstad, Donnely, and Kennedy are gone this year. Over the last few years they have traded or let go of... Davanon, Glaus, Eckstein, and several pitchers. Scot Shields just happens to be good enough for them to keep.

I think Dallas McPherson, Casey Kotchman, and Rob Quinlan better make sure they produce some offense or they will not be around long.

Its not that Moreno is a racist, maybe he is, but i think has more to do with the Angels getting more hispanic viewers/fans.

you dont need to pull the racist card when you are telling the truth!
i truely believe he is turning this team into a hispanic team
theres proof to it too. look at every bigtime player moreno has gotten ( colon, vlad, cabrera)
Duckbill
That might be part of it. But then again they also happen to be top talent. And i'd hardly call Shea Hillenbrand or Justin Speier hispanic.

A news item not worthy of its own thread ... but finally a resolution ...
