Can any of the moderators explain to me why the State of the Franchise threads are all merged even though they are discussing three distinctly different events and time periods? Does this mean that when the draft comes around we are going to have to find the thread from last year and add onto that? If the Ducks play the Red Wings in the playoffs this year will we simply add onto last years threads for each game? Game 1 discussion will simply add on to last years Game 1 discussion even though it has nothing to do with that whatsoever. After all, isn't that exactly what has happened with the State of the Franchise threads - haven't they been merged simply because something has reoccured and not because it is a continuation of the previous discussion? For that matter, couldn't all Game Day: The Morning Skate threads be merged into one? That would eliminate about 20 pages of the forum right there! Merge all the Game Day Threads and we can get this place really streamlined! After all, the Prediction Game thread is just one very long thread that keeps going from game to game, we don't create a new one each game (thank goodness). Why not do the same with the Morning Skate?

The decision making around here is inconsistent at best and leaves me scratching my head.

Is it a big deal? Not in the grand scheme of things, but mine is a curious mind so I feel the need to ask questions. Besides, maybe someone actually has an answer for me (I doubt it) and I was told that the ALLDUCKS.com Board Discussion forum is the very place to ask such questions.

There's a difference between merging threads that discuss the same general topic, and merging game day threads and draft threads.

There is? There's a difference between merging a discussion of the State of the Franchise in 2007 with the State of the Franchise in 2008 and merging a discussion of the NHL draft in 2007 with the NHL draft in 2008? What is it?

It's still relatively the same discussion. If the draft consisted of the same players in a different order, we could merge that thread, but it doesn't. The State of the Franchise threads are very similar, and go over the same info, but have slightly different results.

Be a mod on your own site. We're doing just fine here thanks.

I have to kind of agree with TroyLoney... At the moment I think the Mods are a little too quick to merge threads. There can be a happy balance, is it really hogging resources or diluting the information to have a thread for 2008 separate from 2007?

Another consolation could be to allow the thread to exist until that event is over, then merge it...

I've been hit by the Thread Police too and often I can't even find the danged merged thread anyhow...

I dunno, I'm not the boss. But we are users of the site so at least our opinions should be acknowledged and not brushed off. Attitudes like this really aren't necessary when all that is asked for is either someone to listen, or an explain of sometimes confusing actions by Mods...

Plus side to merging threads like "State of the Franchise" - you can remind yourself what happened at previous events and easily read the history without having to search.

Down side to merging those threads - you have to figure which page the current discussion began on and some of the threads are getting a bit unwieldy.

My idea of combining the threads later after the event or season is over is a good balance between the 2 pros and cons you have here.

This is really nitpicky. As a poster who really could care less whether the threads are merged or otherwise, let me just say that wherever the discussion is happening, that's where i'll post. If the staff wants to merge them, then i'll post in that thread, if I see a newer separate thread that's active I'll post in that one.

TroyLoney I would have loved to dissect your opening post for my Intro to Logic class, you're using what I would call an example of a Slippery Slope fallacy. People have given you answers in the past and very rarely do you seem to accept them. Instead you've done little aside from criticize trivial moderator decisions and policies since you started posting.
