Full Version: McFarlane's Hockey Figures

They've made two Paul Kariyas (Mighty Ducks and Nashville), two Fedorovs (Detroit and Mighty Ducks), and a JSG (home and away), but why no other Ducks? They've never made a Scott Niedermayer even though he's the only NHLer to win the 6 major trophies, plus Conn Smythe, Norris and a surefire HoFamer. There's a Selanne from the Colorado years and two Prongers (STL and Edmonton). That's it.

On the other hand, they've made a Sheldon Souray, Ray Emery, Malkin, two Crosbys, Ryan Miller, Jason Blake, Huet, even Aebischer and Cloutier have their images, plus a host of other less than important names. Where's Selanne in a Ducks' jersey? Getzlaf?

At least they got the dimensions right with the 1" Brett Hull figure.

As a fellow fan who drops into various Kay-Bee's and Toys-R-Uses just to see if the newest McFarlanes have a Duck in their line up, I think the answer could be pretty simple:

McFarlane is part owner of the Edmonton Oilers.

As we all know, the Oilers management does not seem to get along with the Duckies lately. Could be a trickle effect from that.

You're telling me, I check the MacFarlane site every month to see if and when a new series is being released. The Penguins just got a second Crosby, Malkin, and a Jordan Staal all in short order. I'm guessing the national popularity might have a little something to do with it but I think a Niedermayer is richly deserved at the very least.

I'm going to try and find the Winnipeg Teemu eventually, and see if there's an easy way to paint one of those $5 Prongers into a Ducks one as well.

EDIT:

Is MacFarlane still part owner of the Oilers even with the recent ownership change?
Ducksrule08
ive got my giggy and fedo in my room

I WANT A NUMBER 8!!!!
Duckbill
The Winnipeg Teemu is going for huge money on ebay.
MajorHavoc
I too often wonder why there have not been many Mcfarlane Ducks???

FYI, there a currently a few Selanne Winnipeg figures on eBay for between $29 and $39!
Duckbill
The Ducks just don't have the same kind of nationwide appeal. The local BC Sports in Irvine always is cleaned out of Crosbys as soon as they come in and I suspect it was the same for Malkin. In Canada, I hear Luongo was so hard to find people were travelling all over their provinces to find one.

But Scott Niedermayer should have had a figure, preferably one of him going "WHOOOOOO" after hoisting the cup, but i'd take a stoic version also, how rad would it be if they did a Rob and Scott two pack? Then of course, there's a certain finnish player who deserves another iteration as well much more than a certain teammate of his who hasn't won anything with his three other teams.

I know places where some Luongos are available. wink.gif But then again, think about where I'm situated...

If there was a Scott figure, I'm snapping it up within 5 minutes; my Mighty Ducks Giguere figure is looking a bit lonely with himself and his mini-Conn Smythe.

Didn't they scan Getzy at the All Stars this year? I know they did Ovie, and umm....wow I can't remember who all.

That's so cool, I'd love to have that job smile.gif

The 20th series has just been announced. Still no Ducks in the new jerseys. To date they've made two Paul Kariyas (Mighty Ducks and Nashville), two Fedorovs (Detroit and Mighty Ducks), two Prongers (STL and Edmonton), and a JSG (home and away) glare.gif eyebrow.gif

Given the war between Edmonton and Anaheim I don't see one being made any time soon either.

Maybe they could make Burke in a pressed white shirt that can be wheeled out and ... oh, sorry, that's Kevin Lowe's fantasy.

Duckbill
This is just more fuel on the fire to get the Ducks to land the ASG, and that way we can get a Ducks ASG exclusive of some of our players the same way Atlanta got that Kovalchuk figure.
5MinuteMajor
Macfarlane should make a Teemu figure in the new black, orange, and gold, then I would buy maybe. Fedorov is no longer with us, and Kariya is our enemy now, so I personally wouldn't invest in those.
Duckbill
At the very least they could reclaim a bunch of the unsold Edmonton Prongers and repaint them in time for christmas with the black and orange ;-)
Dark Knight
Another set released. Still no Ducks glare.gif
Dark Knight
Yet another set released, and still no Duck players... Number after name shows how many they've made of that player. Not one Duck figure has been made with the new uniform. The players below combined have won 2 Cups, and Tanguay won them both.

Tanguay
Luongo 3 (what's he won?)
Crosby 3
Souray 2 (what's he won?)
Price (what's he won?)
Paul Stasny (what's he won?)
Sundin 3 (what's he won?)
Spezza 2 (what's he won?)

Dark Knight
A Teemu Selanne will be released in December 2009 in both Anaheim Ducks and Winnipeg Jets versions. Still no Scott Niedermayer dry.gif
Still MIGHTY
I wonder if the players have to be asked before a figure gets made of them? or if they have to model for a little bit to get the figure mold?

If that's the case, that would probably be why Scott doesn't have one yet. He's not really the biggest on bringing attention to himself (although he does it unintentionally most times.

I'll definitely be picking up BOTH Teemu figures!
Always Mighty
Any idea how much the Teemu figures will cost?
Duckbill
Saku Koivu is part of the August 2009 set of NHL figures, although he is in his old Montreal jersey tongue.gif
Sojourn
No Scott Niedermayer is just silly. I expect Getzlaf and perhaps Ryan to be possibilities in the future. Getzlaf's stock in the NHL is skyrocketing, and a lot of fans (Ducks fans or otherwise) seem to really like his game.

In the NHL Legends Series 8 line, McFarlane nearly struck gold with one of his choices -- Theo Fleury in a Calgary uniform from the mid-1990s.

...

The other subjects in the NHL Legends 8 lineup are Wayne Gretzky (Edmonton Oilers), Mario Lemieux (Pittsburgh Penguins), Tim Horton (Toronto Maple Leafs), Terry O'Reilly (Boston Bruins), and two versions of Terry Sawchuk (Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs).

Agree and a black Ducks jersey would have been better but... it's a Duck player, I'll be looking for the thing.

Series 24 has been announced and no Ducks dry.gif Wonder what'll take for a Scott Niedermayer figure to be made.

* MICHAEL CAMMALLERI -- Montreal Canadiens
* JONATHAN TOEWS -- Chicago Blackhawks
* TIM THOMAS -- Boston Bruins
* JOHN TAVARES -- New York Islanders
* JONAS GUSTAVSSON -- Toronto Maple Leafs
* ROBYN REGEHR -- Calgary Flames

WHAAAAT!??!?!?!?

A underperforming rookie, a back-up goalie, Robyn Regehr and Michael Cammaleri...

but no Scotty or even Getzy?

That is absolutely ludicrous.

I GOT A TEEMU!!!!

Wife gave it to me last night(early valentines gift)

Yay!!!

Can't bring myself to open it though... which sucks... Maybe I need to buy another one.

BTW there are only 100 being made in the Jets jersey. (mine is Ducks)

Hey I knew about that!!! I was worried I was going to have to call her and tell her you were going to try to buy one online!!
MrsBevo
It's more valuable mint in box. Easier to dust on the shelf, too.
Duckbill
Got my Teemu! How Luke Schenn gets a McFarlane figure and not Getz or Neidermayer is beyond me. But with Jiggy in Toronto now maybe there will be a second Giguere figure within the next year or two?

I'm shocked that they aren't featuring Scotty in the 2010 team Canada series...

I have been looking for one since the came out but to no avail.

Also, FYI, here is what series 25's line-up will look like:

Sidney Crosby - Pittsburgh Penguins (Yes, again...)
Scott Gomez - Montreal Canadians
Henrik Sedin - Vancouver Canucks
Dustin Penner - Edmonton Oilers
Phil Kessel - Toronto Maple Leafs
Marian Gaborik - New York Rangers
Nicklas Backstrom - Washington Capitals
Syko
Yeah, Penner... What a Joke...
Dark Knight
No Scott Niedermayer, no Getzlaf, and I'd be happy with just Scott thumbdown.gif at MacFarlane.

Maybe we'll get "lucky" and they'll make an alternate figure with him in a Ducks jersey. Hah.
