I never, ever thought --as a Ducks fan -- that I would make fun of another team's name. But, boy oh boy are the Chops making that hard.

I think you've hit on something....It's a relative thing. Any name looks better if you can find a worse one.

We are generally HAPPY with the "Ducks" name, because we USED to be the "Mighty Ducks".

If they were the "Stupendous Chops" for a few years, they can change to just the "Chops", and be happy with it!


(It's kind of like hitting yourself on the thumb with a hammer to make your headache go away).

Hey now ... even the rocket guys I've worked with would rather eat chops than name something with them.

Now I can agree with people making fun of the Chops at least the time being, but what is with everyone against the Mighty Ducks name?

How about the Iowa Stalks, then. I think that would have been better than Chops.

If they were going for the double entendre with their new name, Iowa should have chosen The Colonels.

I don't know that it would have brought home the bacon, though.

as i said in my letter to Schlegel Sports:

"Fluffy Bunnies" would have been a better name than "(Pork) CHOPS".
CHOPS does anything but instill fear in the opposition, in fact it invites opposing teams to come and Eat You!

Colonels or Kernels...either one is better than inviting every snide innuendo known to man by placing yourself in the meatcase with a name like CHOPS

The worst part about this is that it does not resemble hockey in any way shape or form. The only way it resembles hockey is that the players skate on the ice.

argh and you know the worst part? NHL 09 has you start out in the AHL and if you want to play with the Ducks, you have no choice but to be a Chop....

We have to be the only franchise in sports that have edible names for both our pro and minor league teams.

Having lived in Iowa for a year, I can say that CHOPS is the perfect name. Hell, they even have an Iowa Pork Queen event every year...some poor chubby teenage gal with prom hair has to wear a sash and is crowned

I've got no problem with sexual orientation and people's right to choose and forming coalitions and such, and I had no problem (emphasis on the past tense) with Iowa choosing a name they like, whether I like it or not.

But it certainly looks like somebody dropped the ball now, infringement-wise (and who gives a rat's tush if it is copy-righted or not... have some class and respect)

This-> C.H.O.P.S.= Changing Homosexuals into Ordinary People -> predates Iowa's selection of the same damn thing, with the periods floated up to half-mast.

Can you imagine if that group adopted Iowa's logo and incorporated it into to their own?

They'll probably play the Lake Erie Monsters. Iowa is in the West Division of the AHL Western Conference, but it's not uncommon to see interconference play in the AHL. They'll probably make a trip to Cleveland. I hope they come to the Spectrum to play the Phantoms this year.
