It looks like Anaheim may need to hire a new coach for their AHL team as it appear Kevin Dineen is close to remaining in Portland as head coach of the Pirates.
Pirates may keep Dineen Kevin Dineen, who coached the Pirates the last three years, has talked to Buffalo about staying.QUOTE
The Buffalo Sabres have spoken with Kevin Dineen during the past week about remaining head coach of the Portland Pirates.
Dineen coached the Pirates for the past three seasons when the AHL team was affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks.
"You can say we've had some positive discussions and we're looking forward to wrapping things up soon," Dineen said Friday.

And now they offer a contract to Brett Favre.

I saw this posted on another board that was discussing how bad Iowa's moniker choice is:

As if that has something to do with C.H.O.P.S

I think they just don't want to admit that the sponsorship from the Iowa Pork Producers was the driving reason for the silly name.
But, when you really analyze the team names throughout the NHL, most of them are pretty silly. They just sound better after decades (many decades) of use.
Penquins?
Maple Leafs?
Rangers?
Red Wings?
Take away the history, and they all seem pretty silly.
But....Chops?....Oh, boy. That will take some extra time.

They need to reach some sort of agreement with the "Changing Homosexuals into Ordinary People" association as well as the Iowa Pork Producers Association, 'cause C•H•O•P•S is a heck of a lot closer to C.H.O.P.S than it is to Chops.
But now that we know where $ came from, it isn't gonna happen.
And believe it or not, some people are offended by the association of Pork and Chops. Check this out:

Hispanic Community Up in Arms Over New Mascot Name... The name did not go over too well with the Hispanic community in Allentown, PA. They complained that "Pork Chop" was an ethnic slur once used in the region's steel mills aimed toward their ancestors who were referred to this name inside the mines and around town...

I have a feeling this is a random error in the NHL system.....
But Joe Callahan has appeared on the "In the System" link from the main Ducks page.
In The SystemI *know* he wasn't there earlier in the week. (I've been following the Ducks pages pretty closely since they've been an unwitting source for transactions recently).
Callahan was with Portland last year, but became a UFA this summer, and signed with the Islanders on July 8th.
So, it's probably just an error that he has now reappeared in Anaheim's list....(So, I apologize if I'm wasting anyone's time

)
But....I report it only because it could also be an indication that a trade has taken place. Nobody else has appeared, or disappeared from the Ducks roster lists.

Right... I was posting this because it was a former/current player under the Ducks system just like Geoff Platt, Stephen Dixon and/or Drew Miller -- ok not so much Miller, but you get the point.
Bouck may not have seen time in Anaheim, but he was crucial part of the Pirates/Ducks relationship when he was here. Without him, several players such as Bobby Ryan may not have had the veteran presence in their development.
