Agreed, some of them were incredibly awful.
One of them was historical. Although it was historical, it was the worst name of a sports team I've ever heard.

The Reapers is the best name ever!!!! Too bad it wasn't even considered.
Their colors could have been Black and Black with Black accents.... Ok maybe not. But Reapers in Black Silver and Red would have rocked

I too would have loved the Reapers. Not gonna happen though. I am still hoping for black/silver/red for the colors. The new name may grow on me but I can't really see how at this point. Maybe when I see it and the logo and the colors on the new unis I'll like it. Guess I'll have to wait until Wednesday to know for sure.
I know one thing for sure. It's gonna be ridiculous when we play Rockford. Porcine overload.

Former Lynx head coach joins Iowa as Assistant GM
QUOTE
AUGUSTA, Ga. (July 8, 2008) The Augusta Lynx announced today that head coach Bob Ferguson will be leaving the club in order to accept a new position in the Anaheim Ducks organization as the Assistant General Manager for their AHL team in Des Moines, Iowa.
Augusta News LinkI can't pretend to know what this means in the grander scheme of things....but there's the news.

He could also be in a position of becoming the new head coach should Dineen not return.... Dineen is still linked to two NHL assistant coaching jobs and is no longer under contract with the Anaheim Ducks.

Thought it was pretty much certain Dineen was either 1) "moving up" in the Ducks org. (to an un-specified job), or 2) heading to greener pastures.
Didn't think coach at Iowa was in the cards?

That is true, but Bruke has also left the door open for Dineen to return as the HC of Iowa, if he so chooses.

Ferguson confirmed the report, saying his departure wasn't an easy decision.
"I was torn because I really enjoyed it in Augusta," he said. "But this was an opportunity too hard to pass up. I knew the next step for me in hockey after coaching was to get involved in management, and the Anaheim organization has been great to work with."

Bob Ferguson is back.
The Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday announced the hiring of the former Des Moines Buccaneers coach to serve as assistant general manager of their American Hockey League affiliate in Iowa.
The 2008-09 season will mark the first time after 27 years of coaching Ferguson will not be behind the bench. He will oversee Iowa's day-to-day, on-ice operations.
Ferguson plans to attend today's 2 p.m. press conference at Wells Fargo Arena where Iowa will unveil a new nickname, logo and colors.

Thunder
Sidewinders
Knights
Dragons
Dragoons
Koalas
Apple Trees
Ice Monster
The Iowa Ice Monsters... That is a better one. Colors would be: light blue, silver, and purple. Logo is a yeti-type monster.

I take the word "Chops" as the inference of the sheer dogged determination of hogs and their resilience, as opposed to a cut of pork.
Just like we like to think of Ducks as taking flight, rather than waddling around quacking.
Just like
Mighty Ducks worked for Anaheim,
Chops is fine with me if it works for Iowa.

Well....I'm underwhelmed.
But keep in mind that the Iowa Chops is not really OUR team. It's Des Moines' team. As long as they are happy, we should be happy.
(Are they happy....I can't tell).

Whatever the outcome, I do appreciate the Ducks management's willingness to let them create their own identity, and not force a name and colors on them. (Like the Stars did).

I could have gone for the "Fighting Swine" or just plain "Hogs". "Chops" is just the worst name ever, to me. I can just read a headline like, "Wolves Devour Chops. The Chicago Wolves left town licking their lips after devouring the local Chops." There's got to be a lot more like that.
